October 2015 Meeting Minutes!
Sorry for the late post! But for whoever didn't make it to the October meeting:
First off, we are recruiting two members to be Student Liaisons for the Academy. Student Liaisons serve as a contact for Academy membership staff and the SAC, communicate Academy student member initiatives, and participate in student member recruitment. Student Liaisons are essentially the link between students and the Academy. Students that are interested must be a Student member of the Academy and a member of the Student Community. This position is a 1-year term. This opportunity is a great resume builder and gives you leadership experience!

SAND-IU is having a social event, and you’re invited! We plan on going bowling at the IMU the week after Thanksgiving break (December 3rd-5th). It’s around $2.25 per game + $2.00 for shoes. From popular vote at the meeting, it looks like we’ll be going Thursday, but this is subject to change and the exact time will be TBA.
Just another reminder that if you did not pay your dues ($10 for the year and a reimbursement of $5 at the end of the year if you volunteer for at least one event) to be sure to bring it to our next meeting to be an official member.
SAND-IU needs baking volunteers for our annual cookie sale! We will be offering 3 types of cookies: chocolate hazelnut no bake, chocolate chip, and old-fashioned pumpkin. The date for this opportunity is still TBD, depending on when we can get the food lab. People who sign up to volunteer will be contacted soon with more details. The more people who sign up the better!

The Brownie Math and Science Event is coming up Saturday, November 14th at Swain Hall, 1130am-430pm. At this event, we will be educating Girl Scouts about nutrition and lunch and healthy snacks will be provided.
**If you want to volunteer for this event you need a background check through the university! IU student background checks are $18 and can be found at: http://www.backgroundchecks.com/solutions/indianauniversity
Please make sure to get this background check done early if you plan on volunteering for this event because it might take a week or two to get your results back!

On another note, the IU Health Fair was a success, and we had over 50 students and faculty visit our booth. Thank you to our volunteers!
SAND-IU apparel came in and thanks to everyone who pre-ordered! There were minor changes to the apparel due to licensing issues and OOS, but due to the number of orders, prices are lower! Shirts are now $18, sweatshirts are $20, and senior shirts are $25.
*If you didn’t place an order, you can still get apparel. Contact Michelle Phan at miphan@indiana.edu . Also, please bring your money for apparel to the next meeting if you haven’t already done so.
At the end of our meeting, guest speaker Breanna Woods RD, came to talk about her own experience with the dietetic internship and had a lot of helpful advice for students who want to follow this path. She gave points about writing application essays, tips for choosing the right internship for you, and the pros and cons of getting a masters degree with your program.
